Vision and Selection of Artists

Manchester Craftsmen's Guild provides a broad spectrum of creative visual arts experiences. Artists are identified and selected for programs by a team of MCG staff artists, student advisors and program leaders. Through exhibitions, lectures, workshops and residencies, visiting artists employ the creative process to enhance the quality of life through beauty and purpose; pose meaningful questions and responses related to life's challenges and inspire the quest for community and empathy.

If you are interested in developing a proposal for an exhibition, lecture, workshop or residency, please contact Heather Powell at 412.322.1773 x 196

Workshops and Residencies
Visiting artists conduct workshops, residencies and school visits ranging from one day to a week or longer. During workshops small core groups ranging from six to twenty students work intensively with artists to develop and explore new techniques and ways of thinking. Residencies provide time and resources for the creation of new works, often times in collaborative teams and in community-based settings. Programs are sometimes conducted in partnership with regional universities, offering high school students the opportunity to work side-by-side with college students, either at Manchester Craftsmen's Guild or in studios located on college campuses in the Pittsburgh region.

Exhibition Spaces
During any single academic calendar year, up to six visiting artists present solo exhibitions in Manchester Craftsmen's Guild's 652 square foot secure gallery and/or in the adjacent 2,000 square feet of lobby exhibition space. Two exhibitions each year feature the work of students enrolled in Manchester Craftsmen's Guild programs and in art classes held throughout the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Manchester Craftsmen's Guild also operates a satellite gallery at 800 Penn Avenue in the heart of Pittsburgh's Cultural District.
