  Art Explorers

ART EXPLORERS (For middle school students only)
Art Explorers is a unique program that enables middle school students to critically examine artwork by contemporary artists and create exciting works of their own. Utilizing the current MCG exhibition, students are challenged to closely observe the artwork to discover meaning, context and the application of the elements of design. Hands-on learning experiences in Manchester Craftsmen's Guild's studios complete their visit.

Art Explorers encourages teamwork and oral communication skills. Studio projects incorporate collaborative activities into the learning process and at the conclusion of the day, students groups share their new knowledge and skills with classmates.

Art Explorers is held on select days between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Up to 30 students can be accommodated, with students then divided into smaller groups. Kindly provide 1 adult chaperone per 15 students. Art Explorers is offered free of charge to student groups within the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Transportation may also be provided. Groups from outside the Pittsburgh Public Schools district can access this opportunity for a fee.

This fall, our Art Explorers program corresponds with the Spectacles of Scale exhibition. From November 5 through December 15, students will examine the fantastical worlds created by the artists Leat Klingman and Beth Nixon's extraordinary modes of storytelling and puppetry. The gallery tour will be
complemented by hands-on workshops in the design and digital arts studios.
