Join the ceramics staff in celebrating the National Council on the Education of Ceramic Arts’ (NCECA) 42nd annual conference, which will be held in Pittsburgh in 2008. Have fun and promote this great event while producing clay Cera[m!x] Pittsburgh logo magnets! Donate some and keep one for yourself!
Digital Arts Studio: Mood Portraits
Experience the world of Digital Arts with a project inspired by our current Visiting Artists Exhibition, Decode. Randomly select an emotion and enjoy the challenge of expressing it with a digital image of yourself, modified using Adobe Photoshop.
Design Arts Studio: MCG Student Presentations
See artwork created by MCG students during the Visiting Artist Workshop with Christy Matson. Students will be in the studio to talk about their experience, then try making your own photo weaving in the Photo studio!
Photography Studio: Photo Weaving
Experiment with weaving in the photo studio! We won’t be using conventional materials such as yarn, thread, or wicker but PHOTOGRAPHS! Join us as we explore taking pictures, shredding them and weaving them back together for abstract imagery that will stir up much attention!
6:00 – 7:30 Scavenger Hunt
Kids, go on a Canary Safari! Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute will be on hand with a newly-developed hand-held sensor kits, called Canaries. Explore MCG with the sensors and Polaroid cameras in search of the lightest, noisiest, coolest and warmest places. Come on and explore with us!
6:30 – 7:30 Artist Talk with Christy Matson (Auditorium)
Christy Matson is an internationally recognized textile and sound artist who attempts to imitate human experience and perception through art by combining traditional hand-weaving with digital technology. Matson is an Assistant Professor in Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institue of Chicago.
