Fire It Up: Raku

Tuesdays, February 12 - May 13 (14 classes)

Raku ceramics are red hot! Dating back to 16 th century Japan, raku means "enjoyment" or "pleasure" and you are sure to love this class. Refine your hand building and wheel throwing techniques while you master the "not-so-cool" raku firing process. Create sculptures and practical pottery during this 14-week class that's open to all skill levels.   

Advanced Dinnerware

Do you know some basics on the potter's wheel but want to know more? Well, come get the dish on dinnerware in this class for medium to advanced students.   Build-on your existing skills while you create set of dishes for the dinner table. From bowls to mugs and plates, in Advanced Dinnerware, the cup is always half-full.   

Wheel Basics

Session 2: Thursdays, April 3 - May 15 (6 classes)

Did you know the key to mastering the potter's wheel involves a can of tuna, a lobster claw and a dinosaur!? Come learn how during one of our half-semester introductions to wheel-throwing and begin your way to becoming a master at the wheel. During the first six weeks we'll learn pottery principles by focusing on creating bowls. The second seven weeks we'll hone skills by making mugs. Join us for just one or both sessions. All are welcome.  


Community Art Mural

Have you ever admired some artwork while walking down the street? Did you ever want to contribute to the beauty of your community by producing a piece of public art but don't know how? Then this class is for you!   Work creatively with your classmates to combine various ceramic and design techniques to create and install a work of public art. Besides making a mural your claim-to-Pittsburgh-fame, this course will include a Pittsburgh public art tour and a trip to our very own famous Carnegie Library.
