My Space: the online journal

Tuesdays, February 12 - March 25 (7 classes)

From self-portraits to scrap books to images from your wildest dreams, the subject of this course is all about you. Work in the portrait studio, the dark room and the digital photo lab. Use a digital SLR camera, a point-and-shoot with color film and even a scanner to portray your personality. Shoot pictures in your home, your school or anywhere you choose. By the time this class is finished, all of your images will be digital files suitable for you to share online. Whether you prefer MySpace, Facebook or Flickr--and no matter your skill level--this class will have you ready to take on the World Wide Web.   

Medium Rare: unusual inkjet surfaces

Tuesdays, April 1- May 13 (7 classes)

Throw out your common photo paper and join us as we explore a variety of surfaces, tones and textures to print digital images. From fabric to watercolor paper to backlit transparency, experiment with the extraordinary to discover different ways to make your pictures stand out. Think about what message are you trying to communicate? What look are you seeking to create? Please bring previously created images to get the most from this 7-week course. All skill levels welcome!

Mega Magazine Frenzy

Whether you want to capture the season's hottest fashions, the best local sports teams or the latest video gaming trend, the topic is yours to choose! Pick a subject and then take your journalism skills to another level as you create a magazine featuring your photos. Learn to take exceptional photographs while visiting places and speaking with people to gather exciting stories. Shoot in black & white and digital, on location and in the studio. Then design your magazine layout with Adobe applications. All scoop-seeking skill levels welcome!

Theatrical Portraits

Experience the dramatic flair of photography in Theatrical Portraits. Glamorize, horrify and enhance your photos. Learn the art of movie make-up and journey behind-the-scenes of local performances. Take photographs of professional actors and have the opportunity to be photographed as well. You will help create portfolios for performers while developing your own photographic portfolio. No matter your skill level, this course is sure to earn you a standing ovation.    

Sun Printing: non-silver processes

Fridays, February 15 - May 16 (13 classes*)

Break out of the darkroom and bask in the sunlight as we learn about photo processes that rely on the sun to develop an image! Mix your own chemicals, make your own photographic paper and maybe even catch a tan. Produce negatives with an antique 4x5 camera and then enlarge your photos to 11x14 inches using new darkroom techniques. Create a full-body sun print using your handmade life-sized photo paper. Join us while we work in the portrait studio, venture on fun field trips and conduct funky photographic experiments! All skill levels welcome.
