Wheel Throwing: Portrait Pots

Is it a pot? Is it a portrait? You decide. Take advantage of the plastic properties of clay by crafting wheel thrown pots into faces. Capture the characteristics of your face or your friend’s, or create an abstract portrait. This course will help you develop your throwing and modeling skills. Open to all skill levels.

Cirque Du Claymation
10 week course
Class meets: Tuesdays, September 13 - November 15
Clay! Camera! Action! Hand-build clay props and characters that will star in their own claymation movie. You will experience working with clay in the ceramics studio and video cameras in the digital imaging lab. Blend low tech material and hi tech processes to create a short claymation movie with a fun circus theme. This class is an exciting opportunity for all skill levels.

Raku: Animals and Masks
5 week course
Section 1 Class meets: Wednesdays, September 14 - October 12
Section 2 Class meets: Wednesdays, October 19- November 16
Masks are worn for ceremonial purposes, to provide protection or to disguise. Take inspiration from the textures, patterns and attributes of animals to create your own Raku masks. Raku is a fast and fun firing process that produces surprising results. While a wide variety of color from brilliant copper to flat smoky gray can be achieved, the final look of your work is left for the fire and smoldering ambers to decide. This is a great class for beginners as well as advanced students who like the unexpected.

Clay Drums: A Beat of Your Own
10 week course
Class meets: Thursdays, September 15 - November 17
Dance to the beat of your own drum! Explore the acoustic properties of clay while learning all aspects of hand building ceramic drums. From stretching your own drum head to participating in an African drumming lesson, this class is definitely for the toe tapper. Open to all skill levels.
