This course will be packed with non-stop action. The Japanese firing process called Raku -inspired by the elements of earth, air, fire and water-offers up surfaces that can be shiny, matte, iridescent or crackled. Whatever effect you seek, this ancient method will deliver brilliant glaze effects and moments of surprise. The session 5 section of this course will be built around a residency with visiting artist Paul Wandless who is in residency at MCG April 12-15. His figurative work including clay and found objects revolves around childhood memories and the construction of autobiographical stories. Along with past MCG visiting artist James Watkins, he has recently co-authored a terrific book on Alternative Firings published by Lark Books.
