  Design Arts Winter 05-06 Classes

Get your Fash-On with Accessories
Instructor: Casey Droege
8 weeks: Tuesdays, February 6 - March 27
One of the most exciting parts of getting dressed is accessorizing. This class will focus on various techniques to create your own accessories. You will explore various techniques from sewing to crocheting to create jewelry, purses, scarves, the sky is the limit. This will be a fast paced class for any one interested in creating their own personal accessories. Open to all students.

Quilting
Instructor: Jennie Canning and Visiting Artist Tina Brewer
8 Classes: Wednesdays, February 7 - March 28
Students can explore fabrics while working with internationally renowned local artist Tina Brewer, as she helps each person to develop a personal narrative quilt.   You will explore your own personal symbolism and interpret it through nontraditional quilting techniques.   You will learn and use basic sewing techniques, photo transfer, decorative stitching and fibers collage. Open to all students.
Tina Brewer’s residency is made possible through the Arts in Education Partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, administered regionally by Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Stencils
Instructor: Casey Droege and Justin Mazzei
8 classes, Thursday’s, February 8 - March 29
In this class we will learn to create images and patterns through stencils. We will experiment with stencils in screen printing, spray painting, and printmaking on a variety of materials. Students will work on individual projects as well as group projects. Open to all students.

Introduction to Painting
Instructors: Justin Mazzei
8 weeks: Fridays, February 9 - March 30
Interested in the world of painting? This could be the class for you! This is a great class for all those beginning artists out there. We will be covering all the foundations from learning about the tools and materials used in painting, some basic color theory, to traditional painting techniques. We will be covering subject matter from still life observational painting to the wonderful world of abstract painting! If this sounds like something you may be interested in we would love to have you in the class. Open to all students.
