"Pittsburgh Speaks", A Video Documentary about Prejudice

2 Quarters - 14 weeks: Tuesdays, February 6 - May 22
In this class students will work together to create a documentary about prejudice in Pittsburgh. They will create a set of questions that will be used to interview a variety of people of varying ages, ethnicities, and income levels. They will then learn to use the video equipment and practice good video composition and audio recording to conduct interviews. Besides good video techniques the students will learn how to create interview questions that will encourage thoughtful response, and how to be good interviewers. The final video will be assembled in Adobe Premiere. Each student will be given a copy of the project on DVD. Open to all students.
Intro to Illustrator

February 7 - March 28
Take your line drawings and turn them into full color illustrations that look like anything from comic books to Impressionist Paintings. In this class we will use Adobe Illustrator to manipulate and enhance your drawings. We'll take drawings you have already made, scan them into the computer where we can then add colors, filters, brush strokes and effects. We will also try using these same effects on digital photos taken during class as well as learning to manipulate text and place it in your compositions. Open to all students.
Monster Montages, Superhero Stories, and Everyday Adventures: In 3D!!!

February 8 - March 29
During this course you will use video to create a conversation between yourself and another student. You will shoot a scene (or two) telling the other person something using mainly video. The other person will watch your video and shoot a response. Through this experience you will learn conventional and avant garde shot composition and how to edit video in Adobe Premiere. A screening of the videos will follow the class. Open to all students.
Documentary Flash Animation

Ever thought of creating a narrated documentation about someone or something? Here's an opportunity to put together a documentary using a combination of electronically formatted audio, text, photos and other graphics. This course is about using a series of images, text and audio recordings in a sequential manner to present a meaningful documentary. The documentary can be an interview with a family member or friend, a favorite topic of study at school or any topic of interest you may wish to cover. If you cannot think of anything exciting to document right now? Don't worry, we have compiled a number of documents on a variety of topics for you to choose from. Open to all students.
