Batik-i Hut
Instructor: Jerel Webster
Mondays, 6-9 pm, May 5 - 19, 2008 (3 classes)
Batik is an ancient technique for dying textiles that dates back more than a millennium! This wax resist fiber art is prevalent throughout Asia and Africa. By applying hot wax in a design, the artist can control where dye does or does not adhere to the fabric. After dipping the fabric into different dye baths to apply layers of various colors, a unique effect is created as the wax cracks during handling (either intentionally or not)! Learn to create your very own batik in this step-by-step course for adults of all skill levels.
